Introduction to Microsoft Stream

Microsoft Stream is essentially YouTube for your business. YouTube is fantastic for streaming videos or sharing them with the rest of the world. However, when you just want to share your videos internally, whether it’s business updates, webinars or training, Microsoft has just the app!

Microsoft Stream is a key tool in the Microsoft 365 suite of applications that allows you to organise, share and store videos privately and securely.

It works seamlessly with the other tools in the 365 suite, allowing you to embed videos onto SharePoint pages and Teams, or even into a Microsoft Form.

Some key features worth noting:

  • Channels
You can organise your videos by channels, just like on YouTube. E.g. you may have a channel for all your training videos, and a channel for Monthly Business Updates etc.

  • Security
You can share videos with specific groups or users only. This makes it ideal for sharing sensitive information.

  • Videos in Stream are automatically transcribed
Not only does this enhance accessibility, but it boosts the search capability by allowing you to search by the video content!

It’s not a substitute for a company YouTube channel. YouTube is still the ideal platform for public-facing marketing videos, where as Stream is more for in-house videos such as training.

Access it by clicking the App Launcher menu and selecting “Stream”.
