New Microsoft Teams feature – chat to yourself

When you hear about the new “Chat with Self” feature in Microsoft Teams, you may be thinking “Why would I want to talk to myself!?” However, it’s a pretty cool way to make quick notes, work on drafts or send yourself a reminder.

People have sent messages to themselves for years as notes or reminders via SMS, email and every other messaging platform available.  Microsoft Teams has supercharged this with the self-chat feature, as not only can you send yourself quick messages or jot down ideas, but you can also send files, videos and images. On top of this, your self-chat window has some default tabs that are super handy:

Files

The files tab helps you to organize the files you have been working on or sent to yourself. You can also share them with others from here.

Organisation

This shows the organization chart for your company (Please note that this is not available for all organisations).

LinkedIn

Allows you to connect to your LinkedIn profile and view related information

Activity

A summary of all your latest activities in Teams – only viewable by you, you can see the recent Teams, channels or tabs you’ve created, what you’ve recently commented on or reacted to. Clicking on the activity lets you jump back in to what you were recently working on without having to find it through navigation.

Get started by clicking “New chat” and typing in your own name.

Top tip: Pin it to the top of your chats for easy access!
