What is a Digital Workplace?

The term “Digital Workplace” or “Modern Workplace” has been thrown around a lot lately, especially in a world that has had to react quickly to COVID-19 disrupting our physical workplaces.

But what does it mean?

Well, in a nutshell, a digital workplace is an online environment where employees can work together. They can do this:

  • anywhere

  • anytime

  • from any device

However a digital workplace is more than just a tool to help businesses continue to function when staff can’t be together physically.

It allows employees to fit work around their lives and be agile, innovative and creative!

It enables a free flow of information, a single source of truth and unites flexible or remote teams.

The customer receives the benefit too in the form of a better customer experience delivered by your engaged, efficient and productive staff.

So how do you build one?

The best way is to implement the capabilities of an established productivity cloud provider.

Microsoft 365 is a leader in the productivity suite world and a driving force for the Digital Workplace. Not only does it contain the popular and useful applications that most people are already familiar with, but it has a number of tightly integrated apps that serve different purposes such as:

  • Document Management (Replacing the traditional file share)

  • Email

  • Social chat and Collaboration

  • Analytics

  • Automation of manual processes

On top of this, many companies already have a Microsoft 365 licence for Outlook Email, but aren’t aware of all the additional apps and tools that are included in their subscription!

Rome wasn’t built in a day

Don’t feel that you have to jump straight to an all-cloud digital workplace overnight.

Every business is different and my conversations with customers always start by understanding their people and processes that already exist and how technology can fit around them.

So ask yourself - how would you like to work if you could work from anywhere? And what tools would you need to enable it?
